From the vision to the reality

SAFETY FIRST - INSPECTION OF THE BOAT BEFORE THE SEASON

« back

The beginning of the season is just around the corner. Some of you have certainly started planning your spring-summer adventures, analysing the routes to take this year. However, in order to fully enjoy the pleasure of travelling on the water, it is worth doing a thorough review of our pearls of wisdom. To a large extent, our safety during the journey is of the utmost importance.
The amount of work to be done very much depends on how your boats and yachts were secured in autumn and how you prepared them for this time of winter ’hibernation’. However, even if the level of the care taken over your prized possession is different to another person’s, you can distinguish a certain scheme which makes it is easier to navigate the boat in order to make the appropriate inspections, most importantly – the visual ones.

Firstly - take a closer look at the hull

Visual inspection of the hull allows you not only to assess the general condition of this part of the boat after winter, but also helps locate any type of abrasion and leakage in the hatches or portholes. If they do occur, repair is necessary so that nothing will surprise you during the trip. It is also necessary to thoroughly clean the hull and then paint it with anti-fouling paint.

Po drugie – sprawdź stan akumulatora

The battery should spend its winter ‘rest time’ in the appropriate place. It is not advisable to leave it on the boat. However, if for some reason you have forgotten to do so, you will need to check the battery status. For this purpose, it is best to connect it to the charger and to charge it for more than 24 hours.

Thirdly, do not start your voyage without checking all installations

With you and your passengers' safety in mind, carefully check the condition of the installations on board your boat before starting the season permanently. When installing gas, check the tightness of the pipes - simply use a regular dishwashing liquid to lubricate the pipes right next to the connections. If bubbles appear, cut off the gas supply immediately. It is also important to check the electrical system connected to the battery - ensure it does not require charging or fuses needing replaced due to burnout, for example.

Fourthly, disinfect the drinking water

If you want to avoid the additional costs of disinfecting drinking water contaminated with algae and microorganisms, make sure that the water is thoroughly checked and cleaned at the beginning of the season. It may be necessary to use descaling agents and replace the water filter cartridge.
